Sonnet of Jane
It was six in the evening,
Right after a weekly church meeting,
I smiled at the people with my right hand waving,
For my Mom was impatient and it was time I was leaving.

A friend called me to halt and hugged me that day,
It was an awkward moment as I groped for something to say,
My brain was exhausted from thinking, yet my lips were silent,
So I stood there and held her like iron.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I stared at her for one last time,
Trying my best to remember that face,
For I knew that this great friend of mine,
Shall disappear from my life, leaving hardly a trace.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I wished I had spent more time with her,
And oh, how I wish I could tell her,
That all I ever hoped for was to be closer.
Yet in truth I was already attached to her.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I hope to once again to see that smile,
I hope to chat with her just a while,
Yet hope as I may,
My dear friend just could not stay.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
For it now misses her laughter,
As she stepped out of those man made border.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The lives of many shall never be the same,
For the people cry out for a girl named Jane,
For once they were touched,
Forever they will change.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
As I end this sonnet of mine,
I would like to say just one last time,
Remember this tall and noisy friend,
As you begin life on Australian land.
